There’s Always Time To Get In Formation

Almost a month ago, I received a very unexpected surprise. A college acquaintance sent me a Facebook inbox message asking if I had plans for that evening. The message really threw me off because I live in Illinois and she resides in Alabama. Thus, I really thought she had accidentally sent it to the wrong person. However, I responded anyway and asked was she in town. To my surprise, she was and she stated that she had an extra ticket to attend the Beyoncé Formation concert.

Of course I immediately accepted the offer because who says no to a free Queen Bey ticket?! There was only one issue — it was just after 7pm and the show started at 7:30. Ordinarily, I would’ve had all types of beauty appointments scheduled. Hair, nails, makeup, etc. I would’ve gone to pick out some statement outfit and shoes. But that wasn’t the reality of this moment. I didn’t have time for that. So I opened my closet and looked for a cute & comfy outfit to throw on. I had just taken some braids down in my hair so I picked out my Afro, which I deemed perfect for the Formation occasion! I dabbed on some eye shadow and lipstick and I was out the door.

If I am completely honest with you, I can say that for a brief sliver in time I almost felt inadequate to attend the show. I knew that all the ladies who would be there probably woke up flawless and were coming to slay! However, I am so happy that I did not get stuck in that place. Beyoncé’s performance was stellar and I was mesmerized by the level of her entertainment. I almost left the stadium a newly converted Beyhive member!

One of the young ladies in the row in front of me, who undeniably came to slay, missed at least 60% of the show because she was busy taking selfies, snap chatting and enjoying how good she looked. At that precise moment, I was so happy that I didn’t have the time to slay, but time to get in formation. I spent time living in the moment and truly enjoying the concert.

Ladies, the point is that sometimes we put too much emphasis on the wrong things instead of relishing in the bliss of the present moment. I am in no way suggesting that you shouldn’t show up and slay! I definitely want you to keep it tight. I am, however, encouraging you to remember what’s important. Do not allow the things that you don’t have time, money or the energy to do rob you of the best life experiences. Remember, the best moments are made with the best people, not the best things.

OMG girl, I was like wait…less than 30 min to get ready (ahem…in formation lol) for a Bey concert?! Love the lesson here and it’s so true. I’ve really been starting to pay closer attention to being in the moment.

Yes, less than 30 minutes! But I am glad I made it work. I think in light of all of the current events, it is even more evident why living in the moment is so important. We just really do not know when that is our last moment. 🙁
