Embarrassed by your child? What do you do?

Embarrassed by your kids

Spring is here! Finally! Hoping the new season and coming end of the first quarter is putting a smile on year face. Today’s 60 degree weather certainly put a smile on mine, lol. Springtime is also when we start paying attention to what’s going on in our backyards in hopes that we can get it pretty and ready for the summer cookouts and outdoor playdates. For the dad in the video below, the discussion of weeds growing in his backyard made it to his daughter’s school. Only thing is, there was some misinterpretation.

That awkward moment your daughter tells her teacher you’re growing a lot of “weed” at home. 😂😭

Discipline in Public?

Has your child ever embarrassed you in public? It seems like my embarrassment stories all surround discipline or the apparent lack thereof, lol. My kids are “home trained”, promise. They have manners, and typically more so in public when they all of a sudden become shy. I actually don’t mind the shy act, lol. But then my youngest became a toddler and decided to act like it’s totally ok to throw himself on the ground. Outside. Screaming, kicking, you name it. Because my other 3 boys had never done this, at least not in public, I kind of froze for a second trying to figure out the smoothest way to discipline and shut him up at the same time, lol. Pretty sure my mother neglected to pass on that gift.

Out of the Mouth of Babes

Then there’s my 4-year-old who thinks he’s grown and opted to use the threat I use on him, on me. That may seem innocent enough if it wasn’t for the fact that I sometimes threaten to call his dad on him (he’s more of the disciplinarian). So when my pre-schooler didn’t get his way and says out loud “I’m going to tell dad you won’t let me “XYZ” and he’s gonna slap you”, people can get the wrong impression, lol. For the record, I’m not being physically abused.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things

Kids sure are adorable, but they really do say the darndest things. Their lack of filter is one we can sometimes learn from (coming from someone who overthinks and thinks herself out of any action). But in the instances above, perhaps silence would’ve been golden.

If your child has ever embarrassed you, please share. And if you’re someone who’s not easily embarrassed, share your secret, lol.

Oh my kids have said the darnedest things and while I don’t get embarrassed too easily it has happened. Never tell a little kid to say something either because they’ll say “you told them to say it”. I remember once telling my son who was about 3 at the time to say that I was sleeping and he said “mommy said to say that she’s sleeping”.
