Moms With Dreams Can Achieve Success

Last week, I shared a post about the fact that moms can pursue their dreams, have success and be a great mom in the process. It doesn’t have to be one or the other, or the end all be all. This is why I love what Erica is doing and teaching through her Moms with Dreams community. It’s so great and encouraging to share space with other moms who are pushing through to achieve success on their own terms while still making family and self-care a priority.

Thanks for sharing Erica!

Working Monday through Friday, grocery shopping on the weekends, running the kids around with their friends, rushing after work to cook dinner, checking homework, endless loads of laundry, cleaning the house and the list goes on. Does any of this sound familiar?

Despite all of that I am blessed with four beautiful children. I am grateful to be living in my purpose and following my dreams. Three years ago if you would have told me that I would be here, I would have laughed in your face.

During my years as a young mother and wife I was completely engulfed in those roles – to the point that I lost my own identity and no longer knew what my favorite color was or what I liked to do for fun. My husband and children were my life. I thought I was doing the right thing because that’s what I saw my mother do.

As time passed, I felt like there was more that I was supposed to be doing with my life, something bigger than me, but I didn’t know what it was. I was already in school working on my graduate degree, so I knew that wasn’t it.

I heard my inner voice gently nudging me to stop playing small and to get up and go after what I wanted. But every time that voice got too loud I would drown it out with my fears and guilt, telling myself that my dreams were no longer important and that it was selfish of me to focus on what I want.

It wasn’t until 2012, a year after my divorce was final, that I had the courage to step into my dreams. I registered my business name, Defining Success LLC, and set out to empower women who had hit rock bottom and forgotten what it’s like to feel fulfilled.

One year later it was crystal clear that I was supposed to work specifically with moms and support them in following their dreams. In August 2013 I started Moms With Dreams, a Meetup group to support moms who want more. Today Moms With Dreams is a growing community where ambitious moms receive support, guidance and resources to help them achieve goals and dreams.

I am living proof that you can be a devoted, loving mother and follow the dreams in your heart – that you don’t have to choose one over the other. Now I know that it’s not selfish – it is our responsibility to follow our dreams so we can live out our purpose. When I stepped into my dreams, my purpose-driven life began.

I share more of my story in my newly released bestseller, Motherhood Dreams & Success: You Can Have It All. This anthology is a collection of 30 stories written by moms across the world, who are just like you. We share our challenges, disappointments, setbacks and deliver you to a place of truth and triumph.

MDS - erica gordonMy purpose in compiling this anthology was to inspire women to:

1. Reconnect with the woman on the inside as we often lose her in motherhood.

2. Recapture and pursue their dreams as they are usually one of the first things we toss out the window after we bring our bundles of joy home.

3. Create the life they desire and deserve with confidence, style and grace.

My hope is that you understand how important it is to follow your dreams and that you give yourself permission to start today.

How would your life look if you said yes to your dreams today?

I have to get this book. I am definitely in pursuit of my dreams and success. Being a SAHM is a whole new world for me and I can honestly say I need to get back to me more. I need to join a meetup group.
