Your Success Will Require Blood, Sweat and Tears

success, blood sweat tears

Every person that I know wants to be successful. Everyone would like to attain a certain level of success in their lifetime and hopefully they are working to get it. I am confident that you are no different. Your definition of success may not be identical to your neighbor’s, but bottom line is that you are still seeking the secret sauce to success.

Well if you are a success seeker, I have a question for you: Are you putting the type of effort in to receive the results you want? I know you’ve seen memes addressing this very issue. One of my favorites is, “You have a millionaire dream with a minimum wage work ethic.” If you reflect over what you are doing to reach your version of success, can you say that the investment on your part is equivalent to the return that you desire? This topic spans everything you do in life.

As a student, you want to graduate with top honors BUT how much time are you spending studying?

As a career woman, you want the corner office with a view BUT are you volunteering to stay after work-hours to get the job done if needed?

As a mother, you want your kids to be respectful, well behaved and never an embarrassment to you BUT are you sacrificing your own agenda to ensure you spend time raising them correctly?

As a fempreneur, you want your business to be a household name BUT are you ok with being the secretary, the janitor, the PR rep, the sales executive and the CEO until you can afford to pay someone to do all that for you?

As a woman, you already have many hats to juggle. Are you ok with the pressure that is going to come when you try to pursue something new?

Are you willing to pour in the blood, sweat, and tears to make that thing a reality?

I think we use some idioms so often that they have devalued what they really mean. Putting your blood, sweat, and tears into a thing is pretty powerful! First off, all of those elements are internal and are only released when some external event causes them to flow out. You have to be doing something before you can even invest any blood, sweat or tears. The important thing to remember is that you need all three!

1. Blood – You sacrifice blood because you’ve been cut along the way. If you are trying to achieve something great, it is not coming without opposition. If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it. When you start figuratively bleeding, then know that you are on the right track!

2. Sweat – Sweat equity is a result of the actual labor of your hands. You invest the sweat when you are down in the trenches doing the work! If there is no sweat, you are not working hard enough!

3. Tears – The tears flow because you are passionate about whatever it is that you are working on. You may cry because it’s sometimes hard. You may cry because everything that is happening makes it justifiable to give up, but that’s not an option for you. Perhaps you may not even cry outwardly, but inside your soul is balling.

I am in no way discouraging you from pursuing your success! Girl, I want you to be the best version of you that you can possibly be! I am just preparing you for what’s to come. Be ready to invest all three if you want to enjoy the sweet taste of success!

Which of the 3 (blood, sweat, and tears) have you experienced most in your journey to success and how did you push past it?
