Think You Got it Bad? Check Your Pulse & Think Again

Last week my family and I enjoyed a wonderful vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC. It was our first family vacation with all the kids, and my mother-in-law joined us for the fun. After we left Myrtle Beach, we drove down and spent the weekend in the lovely town of Charleston, SC for my brother’s wedding.

The fact that I am even able to write this blog post and share this message with you is nothing short of a miracle. A couple of hours before we were scheduled to arrive back home I had dozed off in the car while my husband drove. When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was a car coming towards us and I just knew I needed to brace for impact. Once we were struck by the other vehicle, we bounced off of the median and back into the middle lane of 95 South. The passenger side window (where I was sitting) was completely shattered, and both front tires were no longer existent. The passenger side door was hit so hard, it could no longer close. Besides a few minor cuts on my hands and foot, and a bit of whiplash, we all walked away from this collision without any bodily harm. We then had to wait on the side of 95 for the car to be towed so that we could then see about getting another rental vehicle to make the rest of the journey home.

We know that God sent our guardian angels to protect us as it could’ve (and should’ve) been so much worse. When I actually got out and looked at the damage done to the car, I couldn’t help but cry tears of joy, relief and gratitude for what we had just encountered. It was scary enough to shake my core. But at the same time, it was the reminder I needed to remember to show gratitude for all of the small things that I take for granted on a day-to-day basis.

And I don’t share all of this for any type of pity party or “woe is me” blog post. But I share because I am so thankful that all of my kids, my husband, mother-in-law and I all have a pulse today. I share because it’s always easy for us to count all of the things that are going wrong in our lives. But have you counted your blessings today? If you feel you have nothing to be excited about, or to be grateful for — at the very least…check your pulse and think again.

I am happy to hear your great testimony. Most people will sulk and drown in the pool of negativity and “what ifs” but you thanked God for keeping you and your family safe because it was He who saved you!

Thank you so much Shelda! You are totally right. I think a few years ago, I may have held on to the negatives. But God continues to show me that He is always watching over me.

Wow, that is scary! I am thankful everyday that I awake and am allowed to live another day. Car accidents can be traumatic things for sure, I am so happy to hear that everyone is all right! God is good!
